Currently I am using the 'Find and Replace text in Word Documents' action in Automator. It works, but on the entire document. I am not sure how to make it only work on the 'selected or highlighted' text.

Hi have tried combining the following actions: 'Get Content from Word Documents' + 'Get Selected Content from Word Documents' + Find and Replace text in Word Documents' = All text in the document is modified. Seems like just the second two actions should do it, but in the description of the the 'Get Selected Content' action, it says that it gets the selected content passed from the previous action. Not sure how that works. Anyone have any ideas? And how would a service be better than a workflow? A Service will get the selected text passed directly to your workflow, where you would use the appropriate action(s) to do the substitutions. I don't have Word, but it sounds like the *Get Selected Content from Word Documents* would do only that, although you would then need to do a find and replace on that selection, which the *Find and Replace Text in Word Documents* action doesn't appear to do.
I'm not sure what kind of text formatting is preserved with the Word actions, most of the scripting and third party solutions just deal with plain text. For plain text, if you are doing a specific find and replace a *Run AppleScript* action could be used, but if you are looking for a general purpose find and replace you might want a third party action to provide a decent interface.
